Alberta Shareholders “Struggling to be Heard”

James Langton of Investment Executive reports on a new study by the Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), which finds that shareholders of companies incorporated under the Alberta Business Corporations Act, “face a higher bar for getting shareholder proposals on the agenda.” The study in question, entitled “Off the Ballot: Why Alberta’s business laws need to catch up on shareholder democracy” also looks at whether legal impediments to shareholder democracy and dialogue in Alberta has had any effect on the governance of companies incorporated in Alberta.
