Jean-Paul Bureaud is the Executive Director of FAIR Canada (the Foundation for the Advancement of Investor Rights/la fondation canadienne pour l’avancement des droits des investissuers). In this role, Jean-Paul leads FAIR Canada’s mission to be a catalyst for enhancing the rights of Canadian shareholders and individual investors, and a leading national voice in securities regulation for investors.
Prior to joining FAIR Canada, Jean-Paul worked with the World Bank as a Financial Sector Expert on international projects designed to assist countries enhance their securities regulatory regimes to meet international standards and best practices. He was also a member of the Executive Management Team at the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC). In his twenty years at the OSC, he worked in increasing senior leadership and policy roles in a number of Commission branches and offices, including the Office of Domestic and International Affairs, the General Counsel’s Office, Corporate Finance, and Enforcement.
Jean-Paul began his legal career with a focus on capital markets at Borden and Elliot (now Borden Ladner Gervais LLP), a leading national law firm in Canada. He obtained his LLB from Dalhousie Law School, and a B.A. with Honours from the University of Alberta.
