OSC Announces Emerging Market Issuers Regulatory Review

The OSC has announced that it will conduct a targeted review of Ontario reporting issuers listed on Canadian exchanges and having significant business operations in emerging markets. FAIR Canada is encouraged that the OSC is addressing this important issue and looks forward to the findings of the review. We hope that following the review Canadian securities regulators will take steps to tackle the problems identified in order to protect investors regarding listed companies whose operations and mind and management are not in Canada.

FAIR Canada’s Ermanno Pascutto and Heather Zordel of Cassels Brock were interviewed on BNN’s Headline to discuss the OSC’s review. See the full interview here.

Joe Groia, former head of enforcement at the OSC, was also interviewed on BNN regarding the review. Watch it here.

The Toronto Star covered the OSC’s announcement, including interviews with FAIR Canada board member Stephen Jarislowsky and Ermanno Pascutto. See here for the full article.

Ermanno Pascutto was also quoted in the National Post’s article about the review.

While some expressed concern that the focus would be entirely on listed companies with Chinese business, at least one writer thought it might target Russia deals. See this article in Business Insider.
