March is Fraud Awareness Month

Since 2004, the Fraud Prevention Forum has been organizing Fraud Prevention Month, an education campaign aimed at addressing the issue of fraud in Canada. Notable members of the Forum include the Canadian Securities Administrators, the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network, and the RCMP.

FAIR Canada fully supports this initiative, and encourages Canadians to protect themselves against investment fraud. FAIR Canada’s recent report, A Decade of Financial Scandals, reviews fifteen recent Canadian financial scandals and calls for government and regulatory action to improve the prevention, detection and prosecution of financial fraud and to better compensate victims of investment frauds.

FAIR Canada has also compiled a list of warning signs and tips to allow investors to protect themselves. You can find the article, including the tip sheet, here.
