Investment Executive asks the question “Should regulators intervene more directly to protect investors?” Regulators in other developed markets think so. Investor advocates and legislators from all parties in Ontario think so. FAIR Canada believes that disclosure in legalistic documents and even simplified documents of complex products “sold” to retail investors by financial advisors whose interests are not aligned with the investor is neither effective or sufficient. Time for Canadian regulators to get on board.
