FAIR Canada submitted a comment letter to IIROC on April 8 in support of IIROC’s guidance on the supervision of member advertisements and client communications. IIROC’s initiative assists its members in dealing with the challenges and pressures of communicating with clients via social media. It also makes clear that recordkeeping and supervisory obligations regarding these communications are held to the same standard as other client communications. In its submission, FAIR Canada suggests that mandatory language be added to the guidelines. FAIR Canada continues to encourage IIROC to adopt a regulatory model that would require members to put the interests of their clients first.
