I am a retired professional from Bay Street and manage my own portfolio. I really appreciated this article on transparency in the bond market, and can relate entirely to its contents. Several months ago, I came to the conclusion that there was an opportunity to purchase good quality corporate bonds but as a retail investor it was very frustrating and the window closed all too quickly. In pursuit of information and product comparison, I even dug deeply with old contacts, but to no avail. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack, and participating in new issues was a lost cause. The media and the politicians talk about transparency and fairness but in reality institutional money (and the big banks especially) really runs the show. Sooner or later this will backfire on them as trust continues to erode in the minds of the general public. "Buy and Hold" via pension and mutual funds might even be one of the next bubbles. Thanks for the mission you've undertaken on behalf of retail investors and good luck.

[...] I recently met Ermanno Pascutto and Steve Garmaise from FAIR Canada (Foundation for the Advancement of Investor Rights). Great guys, tons of experience and I'm really grateful for their contributions. Like this: Noting that Canada needs a more transparent bond market. [...]
