2009 CSA Enforcement Report released

The Canadian Securities Administrators (the CSA) released their 2009 Enforcement Report yesterday.   The report describes enforcement activities across the CSA, including statistical data and case summaries.  The cases described are organized under the following headings: (a) illegal distributions, (b) misconduct by registrants – this includes the ABCP-related settlements, (c) illegal insider trading, (d) disclosure violations, and (e) market manipulation.

The report also describes (1) prosecution of securities law violations in the courts, (2) inter-jurisdictional cooperation, and (3) proactive measures  - these include cease trade and asset freeze orders, as well as “mystery shopping” by regulators for products being illegally distributed.
