Margaret Franklin Calls on Investment Industry to Rebuild and Restore Investors’ Trust

In a recent speech, Margaret Franklin, Chair of the Board of Governors of the CFA Institute, called on the investment industry to rebuild and restore investors’ trust. Putting clients’ interests first, ahead of a professional’s own interests, is an important thread of this trust, according to Ms. Franklin. She emphasized that investor protection should be the highest priority for advisors.

Ms. Franklin also noted that high ethical standards and improvements in securities enforcement are necessary to maintain the public’s trust in Canada’s capital markets and the investment profession. She suggested that a national regulator and a complete revamp of the Integrated Market Enforcement Teams are necessary to improve enforcement in Canada.
