Toronto, ON | Claude Lamoureux is one of Canada’s business leaders and corporate governance advocates with more than 35 years of executive experience in the financial, pension and investment industries.
An actuary by training, Mr. Lamoureux was the inaugural President and CEO of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. From 1990 until his retirement in 2007, he oversaw Teachers’ development into one of the world’s leading pension plans with more than $100 billion in net assets, an innovative investment program, and outstanding services to more than 250,000 plan members. Prior to 1990, Mr. Lamoureux spent 25 years as a senior financial executive with Metropolitan Life in Canada and the U.S., rising through the ranks to head the company’s operations in Canada.
A vocal advocate for shareowner rights, he co-founded the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance in 2002 to work for improved corporate governance practices at Canadian companies. As well, Mr. Lamoureux is chair of the Nominating Committee of the Public Sector Pension Investment Board, chair of The Learning Partnership and a member of the International Corporate Governance Network.
Mr. Lamoureux serves on the board of directors of Atrium Innovations Inc., Maple Leaf Foods Inc., Northumbrian Water Group plc, Xstrata plc, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and the OSC Investor Education Fund.
Mr. Lamoureux holds a BA from the University of Montreal and a B.Comm. (Actuarial Science) from Laval University, as well as honorary doctorates from Glendon College at York University and HEC, Montreal. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, the Society of Actuaries and the Institute of Corporate Directors.
